Happy New Year :-)
may all your wishes and ambitions come true and 2010 become a very successful and amazing year for you!
Dear Nadin,

2010 - here we go. Well, we have lots of things planned for this year! We have quite a number of weddings on the books already in amazing venues, such as Doune Castle and the Dalmahoy Hotel, and we are working hard on getting our website updated with the latest fashion and boudoir photographs.

2009 ended with a bang! In December, we had a wedding "doubler" - ie. two weddings back to back. One on Friday, 11 December at Edinburgh Castle, and another on Saturday, 12 December at the Roxburghe Hotel in Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Both were amazing weddings, even though it was very cold and foggy.

Also, in December, we took some amazing photographs of Daiquiri Dusk, a burlesque performer. We met her through Tracy Kane, a make-up artist from South Queensferry who specialises in wedding make-up as well as make-up for fashion shoots. Check out Tracy's website: www.tracykane.co.uk

Boudoir Photography

We spent our Christmas Holiday in Germany - but before Christmas. Germany tends to be "shut" between 24th December and some time in the new year. So, we decided we would go when the shops are still open - just before Christmas. We already had a white countryside in Germany as it started snowing there heavily on the 16th December. Within a day, we had about 6 inches of the white stuff. But everybody in the UK is now glad it's gone! But below, just a little white reminder...

Photo Competition: And the winner is...
Our second round of the 13 competition was probably too weird for you guys? Or are you all hibernating?? I only had ONE entry!!! Are you all too scared to shake your cameras?

So, to make it a bit easier, I have selected a new topic for the 3rd round:

Signs of Spring - 3rd Round of the competition.
Closing Date: 15th February 2010.

Have a look for the first snowdrops, or the sun shining, or the blue skies... Let your imagination run freely and send your images to the usual email address or upload them to the Facebook Event. Looking forward to your entries!!!

In the papers...

Not long now and we will feature in Ireland's stylish wedding magazine "Confetti". One of our clients lives in Ireland and their wedding will feature in the Summer edition of Confetti.

Also, our work was used for advertising in the most recent Scottish Field magazine.
This month we like...

The one with the veil(wedding)
Every wedding tells a unique story and there is always one thing that we remember it by. This one had an OOPS moment during the viewing of the wedding photographs.

During the evening, I had asked the couple to come outside for a few photographs and I utilised the hotel's lights to light up the couple. I took a lovely shot of the bride and groom from behind. The lights shone through the veil of the bride and it was just a nice romantic photograph.

This couple had arranged fireworks for the end of the evening and I took photographs during the fireworks. But because everybody tried to be in the first row, it was impossible for me to take a photograph of the bride and groom from behind - watching the fireworks! So I did what a photographer can do - combine 2 photographs. The lovely photograph from earlier with a lovely shot of the fireworks!

During the viewing of their wedding photographs, the bride said in amazement: "I cannot remember wearing my veil still at the fireworks!", well.... you didn't ;-) They loved the photograph nevertheless and it's now on the front of their wedding album.

Wedding Fireworks
A personal project...
I am always full of ideas when it comes to photography. So one of my ideas was to take a photograph of a teenager - but with more than "normal" make-up - professionally applied. So I asked my PA, Teresa, if she and her daughter would be interested in this project and it was ok to photograph Mia, who is 11 years old.

Mia is a typical teenager whom I photographed before, but this time it was different.

We went to see my favourite make-up artist - Tracy Kane (yes, Tracy again!). First, the multi-talented Tracy styled Mia's hair and then she started on the make-up. Mia was completely transformed into "a cool young woman". When I showed the photographs to some of my friends, they guessed "the girl must have been about 17 years old!". Some guessed she was over 20!

So my little project worked - professional make-up on a child and take some amazing photographs. Mia and her mum were absolutely amazed by the photographs, but it's also scary what a little bit of powder can do to the age appearance of a person!

Oh - and Mia wanted to keep her hair-do for school the next day (but not the lipstick!).

is Teresa... my PA! Teresa has been with us for almost two years now and she is keeping me right! She sorts my diary and keeps me sane by putting up with the paperwork that I don't have the nerve for sorting out! From now on, she will be working more closely with our clients too.

Teresa is a married mum of two (one of whom is the gorgeous Mia, above) and lives in Linlithgow. She is a very "crafty" person too and designs and makes her own jewellery and all sorts of other things. Check out her website: www.mimipearl.co.uk

Well, nothing else to write for now except that I am really glad all the snow has gone and I can look forward to a scheduled emptying of my wheely-bins. I might even be able to walk to the shops without risking my life on the icy pavements ;-)  I enjoyed the snow while it lasted, but I am really looking forward to seeing some snowdrops now!

May Spring commence (good-bye, winter!)!!
